Double Wire Saw cuts live Sewage Pipe
Morrison at Meadowhead Irvine
A concrete tank was formed around the existing sewer pipe with the new pipe coming in beside it and was designed to accommodate the dimensions and mounting of two wiresaws (one at each end of the tank to cut out the 1200 mm. dia. pipe with a 12 mm. metal skin.)
At the existing tank end the pipe had another pipe inserted inside and this made the skin 24 mm. thick.
Another part of the design was to cast square concrete sections at each side, surrounding the pipe but not attached to the floor of the tank and incorporating a plastic pipe for wire feeding purposes on the underside.
These concrete sections were put in place to support the wire to make sure that it did not snag on the 12 mm. steel and worked perfectly.
A repeat of this process took place in another tank of similar design to complete the re-routing of the sewage to the new pipe.
